It is “very difficult” to know how much taxpayers’ money was spent on consultations last year, the Chief Minister has told Keys.

Mr Cannan said that there were 33 consultations carried out last year on topics including marine infrastructure regulations and policing on the island.
However, he said: “Even within departments, total cost of consulting would be dependent on many factors, including the number of responses received, how many ongoing pieces of work a department has that requires consultation, how many officer analysts are assigned to each consultation, as well as any other engagement exercise, exercises that are outside of what is captured within the consultation hub, such as focus groups in and public meetings.”
Mr Cannan added that it is “very difficult to assign a cost” to consultations, but said he would “urge everybody to think carefully about the effectiveness of consultation and its ultimate purpose”.
