Three Men Sentenced For The Rape of a Teenage Girl

Three men have been sentenced for the rape of a teenage girl that occurred in Anagh Coar on June 25, 2022.

The three men were found guilty following a trial at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on October 4, 2024.

James Marcus Doherty aged 41, Steven Cannon aged 45 and Graham Peter Skillicorn aged 65 were today (December 5) handed the following sentences:

  • Doherty was sentenced to 16 years for rape, 3 years for a separate matter of wounding which involved a dog attack on a police officer and further traffic offences were also dealt with concurrently.
  • Skillicorn was sentenced to 14 years and 2 months.
  • Cannon was sentenced to 15 years and 9 months.

All 3 men were placed on the sex offenders register for life.

The Isle of Man Constabulary released this statement:

“Detective Chief Inspector Christie Sayle from the Isle of Man Constabulary with responsibility for the Protecting Vulnerable People Safeguarding and Investigations teams, would like to take this opportunity to commend the victim in this case for the tremendous bravery she has shown by reporting the matter to the Police and having the courage to stand in court to give her evidence in the presence of those responsible. 

Special thanks is also given to the Detectives within the Protecting Vulnerable People Investigation team, the Prosecution team from the Attorney Generals Chambers and members of Victim Support Isle of Man, who worked tirelessly to make sure all of the evidence was gathered and presented to the best possible standard and for all the support they have given the victim throughout the lengthy and distressing process.

Being the victim of any form of sexual offence is extremely traumatic and upsetting and it takes courage to report such matters. Specialist Officers from the PVPI are available to speak with anyone who wishes to report any sexual offence and those officers will be able to offer the support, guidance and advice to victims throughout any Police investigation.”
