Davey Todd has revealed he suffered multiple fractures after a crash at the Daytona 200 that fired him straight into a wall.
The TT rider detailed the crash that ended his Daytona campaign in the opening qualifying session, revealing he suffered fractures to his left femur, right tibia and right foot after being thrown into a wall when his steering locked.
In a video update to fans, Todd said his week “didn’t go super well,” explaining he was taken out by another rider on the first lap of qualifying.
Although he was able to ride the damaged bike back to the pits, his team repaired it and sent him back out for the final minutes of the session.
Steering Jammed
Todd said he completed three laps before a mechanical issue linked to the earlier crash caused the steering to jam: “Something in the steering jammed, it basically turned me straight into the wall. I tried to jump off it, but couldn’t really get off in time.”
The impact left him with significant injuries: “Broke my left femur, my right tib and my right foot and my nose.”
He has since undergone surgery, including a rod in his femur and screws to stabilise his tibia.
Despite the severity of the crash, Todd said he is already standing on his left leg and is focused on recovery.
He praised partner Abby for supporting him since the incident and said he hopes to leave hospital soon to begin full rehabilitation at home.
“I’m going to work really hard, a lot of great people have been helping me and advising me what to do in the coming weeks and months,” he said, adding that he will update fans as he progresses.
Todd did not give a timeline for his return but said he aims to be back “as soon as possible”.
