The employment and equality tribunal has said it is unable to help a man reclaim money that may be owed to him.
Giliard Gomes brought a claim aginast Leetent Limited for unfair dismissal and unlawful deductions.
The tribunal said Mr Gomes worked for both 1337Probet Ltd (a Manx company) and Leetent Ltd (a company registered in England) which are part of a group operating from the UK and Dubai.
He was based in the Isle of Man he had been working remotely on matters involving the gaming sector beyond the Isle of Man.
Chaired by Douglas Stewart, the tribunal ruled that as he had been employed for under a year when his employment ended he could not claim unfair dismissal.
Admission
However, documents entered by a director and in that, whilst containing some denials, the panel said there was “a clear admission that there was an amount due to Mr Gomes and he was confident that it would be paid by the end of December 2024”.
While that amount was due to be around £8,500, the tribunal is unable to further this because of lack of jurisdiction.
It said: “He can pursue his unlawful deduction claim in England as a debt due with no immediate time limit problem but this would not be in the Employment Tribunal.
“He has six years under English law to seek payment for the admitted debt but recent information suggests that the Respondent company may be in no position to make any payments.”
