A Ramsey man has been banned from the road for a year after admitting driving while over the limit.
Kevin Grugan, 68, also admitted driving without a licence as his had expired.
Prosecutor Hazel Caroon told the court that on June 13, police were directed to the Shoprite car park on Bowring Road in Ramsey where a man was seen staggering while getting into his car.
Police went to his home where Grugan was said to be smelling of alcohol and told them he had had two pints with a meal.
After attempts at breathalyser proved unsuccessful, he was arrested and taken to Police HQ where the lowest reading he gave was 41, the legal limit being 35.
Agreeing to a blood test, the court heard this recording 88mg per 100ml of blood, the legal limit being 80mg.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said his client felt okay to drive at the time of the offence and noted that there had not been any report of his driving being criticised.
However, he added that Grugan had made a “misjudgement on his part”.
Sentencing him Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood acknowledged he was within 10% of the limit, but that the the two pints had had a “noticeable affect on you” and noted that the samples were taken some time after he had driving.
She fined Grugan £1,000 for driving while over the limit and £100 for his expired licence, he must also pay court costs of £125.
Grugan has also been banned from the roads for one-year and must take an extended driving test before he can drive again.
