The minimum wage will rise by 5% from April, with as yet undefined threshold changes and support packages to follow.
Members backed an amendment by the Chief Minister to Julie Edge’s motion, slashing the planned rise from 9.9% to 5%.
The u-turn by members, which follows significant pressure from the island’s business community, overtakes the rise put through by members last year.
The change means the minimum wage will rise to £12.86 from April 1, with a revised youth rate of £10.16.
