President of Tynwald Laurence Skelly has led tributes to former MHK and MLC Geoff Corkish MBE, who died in September.
Addressing the first sitting of the parliamentary year, Mr Skelly honoured Mr Corkish’s dedicated service to the Manx people, included his election to the House of Keys in 2006.
His distinguished career included significant roles such as Deputy Speaker, Chair of the Arts Council, and board member of the Manx Electricity Authority.
Mr Skelly said, “We will remember Geoff as a member who always worked collegiately and constantly striving for a positive outcome. He was passionate about tourism, education and culture, demonstrating a deep love and cherish for the Isle of Man.”
Beyond politics, Mr Corkish was a respected figure in the community, known for his 37-year career with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company and his legendary charitable work.
The court observed a moment of silence in memory of the former colleague, described as “a truly proud Manx gentleman.”
