The President of Tynwald has welcomed Tricia Hillas to her first sitting as the island’s new Bishop.
Bish Trish was enthroned as the Bishop of Sodor and Man at Peel Cathedral this weekend.
The 88th holder of the post, Bishop Hillas led Tynwald in prayers for her first sitting today.
Welcoming her, Lawrence Skelly said: “On behalf of the court, I extend to you the warmest of welcomes and trust that you and your husband Andrew will soon feel at home here on the Isle of Man.
“The service of the bishop as a member of our legislator has been a continuous and unique feature for many centuries.
“The contribution, contribution of our bishop to public life of the island in this particular setting is one which we truly value.
“Lord Bishop, you bring with you wide recent experience of chaplaincy and pastoral work, particularly in your most recent roles as Archdeacon cannon of Westminster as well as chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons.
“Our parliamentary system is somewhat different and our membership is somewhat smaller, but I hope you will enjoy your work in our unique Parliament, and we look forward to having you as a colleague.”
