Passengers travelling to the island from outside the Common Travel Area may now need to have their passport scanned.
Some people arriving on visas will also be required to provide a finger print.
The scanners have been installed at Ronaldsway by the Customs and Immigration team.
The government said: “This means that if you’re coming home on one of the direct flights you may need to scan your passport before collecting your bags, for some people arriving on visas you may also be asked to scan you fingerprint.
“This is so we can make sure that everyone arriving has the right to do so, and that they don’t have any restrictions or visa issues.”
Essentially the same as arriving in any other airport when travelling from abroad, the airport said the machines are part of work to “develop measures to tackle those threats to the island’s safety and security”.
It added: “The majority of arrivals to the Isle of Man won’t see anything different – as these immigration checks aren’t required for movement within the common travel area.”
