Union to Ballot on ‘derisory’ Offer

Isle of Man Government Office, Douglas

Unite the Union says it will ballot its members on whether or not to accept the latest pay offer from the government.

The Public Services Commission has offered a new “final” two-year final offer to government workers of 4$ in 2024/25 and 2.5 in 2025/26.

Addressing its member, the union said its ballot would be “commencing shortly for the derisory offer from the PSC”.

It added: “Your voice and rejection of the three year deal, seems to have fell on deaf ears and now we are being asked to ballot on a worse offer than before, but on a two year deal.

“For the avoidance of doubt the joint Union’s started pay talks in December 2023, that is not the fault of Unions as the rhetoric seems to suggest it was the lack of engagement from the Public Service Commission.

“The claim gave alternative way of applying the pay we had submitted in our claim to put more money in the middle and lower paid workers has not been considered, yet the approach of a blanket 4% across the board is what is being offered, our claim would have been less than the cost envelope that now stands

“The elitist on movie star wages would reap the benefits yet the workers who do provide the essential services are left behind, yet our members keep the internal cogs of the island running keeping the IOM residents safe and secure in the services provided.”
