The unknown substance found at Garwick Beach earlier today has been identified to be “more than likely” Palm Oil.
The identification was done by Isle of Man Fire and Rescue crews using the TruDefender (Spectrometer) to identify the chemical structure.
The service warns that if any palm oil is seen to keep pets away.

If a dog eats the substance it can lead to dehydration from vomiting and diarrhea and can be serious.
Although low risk to humans, the service asks to avoid coming into contact or trying to remove these items from the beach.
The Coastguard will keep the beach closed and look to remove some of the waste however with tidal movements it is expecting more to be washed up over the coming hours.
