The Gas Regulation Order 2024 will protect vulnerable people from disconnection for non-payment of gas bills over the winter months.
A recently published review by the Council of Ministers, requested by Tynwald, concluded there is no evidence suggesting the need to amend the legislation.
Government says it has proven effective in protecting vulnerable households.
However, it says that monitoring will continue throughout the winter to ensure the Order provides adequate protection.
Gas Disconnection Protection
The Order provides essential protection for households with residents over pensionable age, children under six, or individuals eligible for Disability Living Allowance or War Disablement Pension from disconnection between October 1 and March 31.
Minister for the Cabinet Office, Kate Lord-Brennan MHK, said: “This Order provides the minimum necessary protections, ensuring that those most vulnerable people in our community are protected from having their gas supply cut off during winter.
“The Council of Ministers remains committed to ensuring vulnerable individuals are adequately protected. We will continue to review the impact of this legislation and work with stakeholders to provide additional advice if needed.
“The Council of Ministers also welcomed the Vulnerability Commitment from Isle of Man Energy also published in January.”
