The Police have issued a new alert concerning a dangerous online trend targeting children and young people.
School Education Officers have identified accounts on TikTok encouraging users to follow them with the promise of a ‘shout out’.
Once contact is made, the user then pressures the young person to send inappropriate images or videos under the guise of a ‘challenge’.
Police are also aware of instances where Robux, the currency for the popular game Roblox, is offered in exchange for similar material.
A constabulary post said: “We will continue to highlight any current local online trends so that parents, carers, and young people are aware and can make informed choices about their online activity.”
Officers noted they are “encouraged to see that many young people are acting on the advice we deliver in schools,” particularly in telling a trusted adult if asked to do anything that makes them uncomfortable.
