Warning Over Bogus Bank Website

The Financial Services Authority has warned islanders not to be duped by a company claiming to be based on the island.

Fairbairnprivate.com claims to be based on Hill Street, Douglas, but no company exists at that address.

The FSA said the website claims to offer a wide range of financial products including but not limited to banking services.

It said: “The Authority has also seen emails from the bogus company enticing individuals into a business relationship also using the email address stated and claiming to have a registered office in the Isle of Man.”

ID Theft

The FSA said it is concerned that any person who has accessed the website may potentially become the victim of fraud, or it may be an attempt at gaining personal data from the browser in order to steal their identity.

It said: “The Authority has failed to establish any association between the website and any genuine Isle of Man companies or businesses.

“The genuine occupiers of the St Mary’s Court address have confirmed that they have no connection with the bogus website or the offerings therein.”
