Police and the Cyber Security Centre Isle of Man are warning people to be on their guard against fake calls pretending to be from a “Fraud Team”.
A spokesperson for the CSC said: “We’ve received multiple reports of fraudulent phone calls from individuals claiming to be the ‘Isle of Man Fraud Team’.
“These calls are designed to create panic and pressure victims into taking immediate action.”
If you get such a call the CSC says you should hang up and verify any claims directly with your bank or the relevant organisation. Never share your bank or security details when you receive such a call.
You can report such a call with the CSC via this link.
Tell Others
Meanwhile police are urging members of the public to tell others of the risk.
A spokesperson said: “Please take a moment to pass it on to friends, family members, or others who may be at higher risk.
“It is especially important to reach those who may not use social media and could otherwise miss this warning. A quick phone call, text, or conversation can make all the difference in preventing someone from becoming a victim.”
