Magistrates have issued an arrest warrant for a man who is accused of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal.
It is alleged that David Neil Savage, 58, now living in Nottingham, abandoned his dog in Crosby when he left the island last year.
The dog was found but had to be put to sleep due to its condition.
It is alleged that he made no plans for the animal to be cared for when he left the island.
Prosecutors told the court that Mr Savage had previously been in contact before a warrant with bail was issued, but he failed to appear before Thursday’s magistrates court.
