The Steam Packet’s former flagship Ben-my-Chree has been moved into position in Douglas after the issue with Manxman.
Manxman berthed in Douglas accompanied by a tug this morning after smoke was detected during her overnight sailing from Heysham.
The Steam Packet has said: “During the 2:15am sailing from Heysham to Douglas, smoke was detected in a machinery space within Manxman.
“Standard safety procedures were activated, including a muster of all passengers at emergency stations.”
No passengers or crew were injured and there was no threat to the overall safety of the vessel.
With this morning’s Heysham sailing cancelled, the Ben was moved off the outer Victoria Pier, replaced by Manxman, with the former moving to the King Edward VIII Pier.
The company said: “Contingency plans to activate back up vessel Ben-My-Chree are being implemented and a further update will be issued shortly.”
A further update is due from the Steam Packet later today.
