Millie Blenkinsop-French has urged the government to revive plans for a dementia village, highlighting the lack of freedom faced by those in traditional care homes.
Speaking at the Tynwald Day ceremony, she shared her concerns for friends living with the condition.
“I have three friends who’ve got dementia and one of them is in a home.
“It’s a lovely home, the staff are lovely, but she lives in a little box room,” she said.
“She’s had to give up a home and everything to go in there, but there’s nothing homely about it.”
She contrasted this with dementia villages, where residents can move freely in a safe environment and cited examples in the UK and Ireland for their success.
