Curraghs Wildlife Park, Humboldt penguin chick is 9 weeks old and about to leave the nest.
The animal team took the opportunity to do a weigh-in, micro-chip and take some feathers to send for DNA sexing – so it will be a a few weeks before they know if they have a boy or girl.
The park have had 27 chicks hatch and thrive in the last five years as part of the EAZA Ex-situi program, 23 have moved on to three other zoos.

Over 4,000 Humboldt Penguins are cared for in a network of #eaza zoos and they link this work to effective conservation in the wild.
The park explained that this species is vulnerable to extinction, and in decline, it supports #sphenisco a charity that supports this species in the wild through monitoring and protection.
A recent success they were instrumental in has been getting the government of Chile to protect in law a vital beach where a huge number of Humboldt penguins nest.
