Kirk Michael rally driver Steven Ormand Smith and Lancashire co-driver Phil Sandham battled back from early misfortune to secure a class win at the Chris Kelly Rally.
The pair, competing with support from Ormoco Accounts, Manx Rally Sport and DPM, saw their challenge hampered by a rear wheel puncture during the opening stages, costing more than a minute and a half and dropping them down the order.
After arriving on the island via the early morning ferry from Heysham, the crew completed reconnaissance of the special stages before tackling difficult conditions in Port Erin, where spectators turned out in large numbers despite severe weather.
Lying fifth overall when the puncture struck, Smith and Sandham slipped down the standings and ended the six night stages in 17th place.
However, with improved weather conditions on the second day, the crew mounted a strong recovery.
Their car ran faultlessly throughout the remaining nine stages, and a series of top-five stage times helped them climb back to 11th overall and claim first place in their class.
The crew also thanked the local businesses that supported the event.
