A new drop‑in hub offering practical help to households struggling with rising winter costs will run next month at The Salvation Army’s church and community centre.
The Winter Support Hub on Saturday, October 3 will open from 11am to 2pm.
It will provide guidance on managing energy use, staying warm as temperatures fall, and making financial adjustments as more families face pressure from increasing bills.
The event is free, friendly and confidential, led by The Salvation Army’s FCA‑regulated debt advice team.
A range of partner organisations will attend, creating a one‑stop support point under one roof. Agencies include Manx Utilities, the Isle of Man Housing Agency, Island Energy Group and Age Concern, alongside providers of health, wellbeing and food assistance.
Debbie White, the charity’s area debt advice co‑ordinator, said many clients are already in “negative budgets”, with winter energy costs set to stretch finances further. She said early support and strong referral networks can help prevent household budgets from “buckling”.
The Salvation Army’s debt advice service, now in its fifth year, offers one‑to‑one guidance, works directly with creditors and can explore options such as repayment holidays.
Anyone worried about arrears or struggling with monthly payments can contact the service on (01624) 675702 or email iomdas@salvationarmy.org.uk.
