Women’s Team Through to Final

The Isl elf Man’s women’s team is through to the final of the Island Games at Orkney.

Wayne Lisy’s side overcame the Western Isles thanks to a goal from Rebecca Cole and big saves from keeper Kayleigh Greggor.

After conceding a penalty in the 33rd minute to trail 0-1, Cole made sure it went into the break level with as she flicked home a knock down from a corner to make it 1-1.

In a tense second half that brought few chances, Cole almost grabbed another for the Manx side but was desperately unlucky to see her effort come back off the bar as she pounced on a defensive lapse.

Penalties

With a tight extra time, there was no real clear cut chances for either side meaning penalties were looming.

The Western Isles were up first but Greggor made a big save, offering Lisa Costain the chance to give the Manx the advantage, only to see her effort hit the post.

Greggor had no chance with the Western Isles’ next penalty as they made it 1-0, with Pippa Wallis levelling up to make to it 1-1 with her spot kick.

The Manx keeper was desperately unlucky not to save the third pen as the WI’s led 2-1, Lydia Shaw was up next, no messing, riffled it home to make it 2-2 after three kicks apiece.

With the Western Isles’ fourth penalty coming down off the bar and out,  Chloe Teare had the chance to make it advantage to the Manx side and she did just that, driving it down to the keeper’s right.

The Western Isles knew that had to score but Greggor guessed right and went to her left to save the penalty and send the Manx team through to tomorrow’s final versus Bermuda.
