Taxpayers have supported strategic air routes to the tune of £2.2m on strategic air routes in the year up to March 31.
This is separate from Patient Transfer costs which is awarded by way of tender.
Listed in the central government management accounts, the total cost was £2,268,000.
While the accounts do not specify which routes are being supported by the taxpayers, the government previously confirmed in the summer of 2022 that it was underwriting Loganair’s London City and London Heathrow services.
The Steer report into air services also highlighted London routes as being the most likely to require a public subsidy.
