Plans to convert an office building into a 64-bed hotel has been recommended for approval by a planning officer.
Hesketh Investments has applied to convert Royalty House, on Walpole Avenue, Douglas.
Submitted by Keith Lord, who was behind the regeneration of the Mannin Hotel on Broadway and plans for a new hotel on Lord Street, the plans include a proposal for a restaurant, bar and roof-top spa.
The application says plans would create 18 full-time job, with an average salary of £30k.
In his report, principle planner Chris Balmer said the “applicants are having difficulty in finding a replacement tenant for such a large amount of
office space and indicate there has been little interest”.
He added: “Overall, given the sizeable amount of available office space within Douglas centre, it is considered the loss of office space on this site is un-objectionable at this time.
“This view may change if there was clear demand for office accommodation given the lack of available space, but that does not appear to be the case at this time.”
The planning committee will consider the application on Monday.
