Firefighters have used over 65,000 litres of water in a concentrated 24‑hour effort to bring four outdoor fires under control across the Isle of Man.
Crews responded to two fires on Saturday evening, one overnight, and another in the early hours of Sunday morning, with each scene presenting deep‑seated hotspots and stubborn burn areas that required sustained water deployment.
The Isle of Man Fire and Rescue Service committed eight appliances, including its specialist 8,000‑litre water carrier, and around 40 firefighters across the four incidents.
The scale of water use reflects the challenge crews faced in preventing flare‑ups and ensuring each fire was fully extinguished.
Sunday morning’s response prevented flames from reaching nearby vehicles and gas cylinders, avoiding what the service described as a potentially far more serious situation.
The service is urging the public to help reduce further strain on resources by avoiding open fires and disposable barbecues in the countryside, taking litter home, disposing of cigarettes responsibly, and reporting any signs of fire immediately via 999.
