Team Isle of Man has arrived home from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after delivering one of the most successful performances in the island’s history.
A squad of 27 athletes competed across the ten‑day event, securing one gold and one bronze, alongside multiple Manx records and personal bests.
David Mullarkey made island history by winning bronze in the men’s 10,000 metres, the Isle of Man’s first ever athletics medal at a Commonwealth Games.
Matthew Bostock added to the achievement with gold in the men’s 40km points race, the island’s first gold medal in 20 years.
Equals Best Ever
The two‑medal haul equals the Isle of Man’s best ever Commonwealth Games result, matching Melbourne 2006, when Sir Mark Cavendish won cycling gold and Trevor Boyles and David Walton secured bronze in shooting. The island finished 20th out of 74 nations and territories.
Chief Minister Alfred Cannan MHK said the team’s performances were “a source of immense pride”, praising the athletes’ talent, dedication and determination.
He offered special congratulations to Mullarkey and Bostock, describing their achievements as “the pinnacle of sporting success for Team Isle of Man”.
The Chief Minister has written to the Chair of the Isle of Man Commonwealth Games Association, as well as to Mullarkey and Bostock, to formally congratulate them and the wider team.
