73 serious incidents at Noble’s Hospital over the past three years were found to have resulted from staff error or omission, according to new figures released.
The data was provided by Health and Social Care Minister Claire Christian MHK in response to a written question from Juan Watterson MHK.
Mr Watterson asked how many cases reviewed by the Serious Incident Review Group were attributable to staff actions and what the most common themes were.
Minister Christian said the 73 incidents represented 0.014% of all hospital admissions, appointments and attendances during the same period.
Serious Incidents
The breakdown shows a gradual year‑on‑year decline:
- 2023/24: 28 incidents
- 2024/25: 24 incidents
- 2025/26: 21 incidents
The Minister also outlined the top five recurring themes identified each year.

- Care delivery, diagnosis or treatment
- Delay in treatment
- Accident or injury (excluding falls)
- Foetal or neonatal issues
- Self‑harm or suicide
2024/25
- Care delivery, diagnosis or treatment
- Fall, slip or trip
- Delay in treatment
- Maternal or delivery issues
- Missing or absconded patient
2025/26
- Care delivery, diagnosis or treatment
- Delay in treatment
- Verbal or physical aggression
- Scans, tests or results
- Fall, slip or trip
Minister Christian said the Serious Incident Review Group continues to analyse trends to support learning and improve patient safety across Manx Care services.
