A man who had a couple pints while waiting for a Chinese takeaway has been disqualified from driving.
Richard Hewitt, 52, of Port St Mary, admitted one offence of drink driving when he appeared before magistrates this week.
Prosecutor Sara-Jayne Doge said that officers on patrol in Port Erin on the evening of July 31 saw his Hewitt’s car parked in a loading bay on Church Road.
Having been advised he may be driving under the influence, when they saw his car had gone soon after they went to his home address where he failed a roadside breath test.
Later, at Police HQ, he gave a breathalyser reading of 52, above the legal limit for alcohol of 35.
Advocate Peter Taylor told the court his client had been moving house and after having a “couple” of pints at lunchtime, he later had another two while waiting to collect a Chinese takeaway.
Mr Taylor said his client had made a “miscalculation” on how much he had drank, but was sorry for what happened and offered his apologies to the court.
He added that it was “totally out of character” for Hewitt.
As well as imposing the mandatory two-year ban, fined him £1,500 plus costs of £250.
He will also be required to take an extended driving test before returning to the roads.
