This Weekend’s Football Roundup

A rarity for Manx football this weekend as St Georges and Rushen Utd played out a 0-0 at Glencrutchery Road, stat men Hatty or Eric Clague would be able to tell you how rare they are.

In the title race at the top of the Premier League, defending champions Ayre beat St Marys to maintain their lead over Peel as the westerners gave high flying Foxdale a dose of reality as they beat them 5-2 at Douglas Road as Tommy Brown scored a hat trick.

Third place Laxey kept up the pressure at the top as they beat St Johns 4-1 with Johnny Palmer’s side looking good for a Railway Cup place.

Taking up that fourth soot is Corinthians who had a disappointing weekend and absences played their part as an impressive Union Mills side beat them 1-2 at Ballafletcher.

Elsewhere, the battle of the bottom saw Onchan move above St Georges as they beat basement side Marown 6-2 at the Nivison Stadium.

In Division two leaders Braddan ran riot to beat Michael Utd 10-2 while second placed Old Boys beat third place Colby 6-1, thanks in part to two goals from Jacob Stones, to keep up the pressure at the top.

Elsewhere, there were wins for Douglas Royal and promotion stalking horse RYCOB as they moved into fourth.
