The government is seeking for a regulatory body to oversee the drilling of an offshore exploration gas well.
This comes just days after Crogga announced it was pulling the plug on its plans to drill for gas.
It says it wants a private company or suitably qualified government department to fulfil a role similar to that provided by the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA), the Offshore Petroleum Regulator for Environment and Decommissioning (OPRED) and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK for overseeing the drilling of an offshore exploration gas well under a Seaward Production Innovate Licence.
It says this is to oversee the drilling of a well in the Irish Sea.
The PIN says: “The successful applicant will play a critical role in managing the island’s potential energy resources, ensuring the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible extraction of hydrocarbons.”
