Cowley Groves says it has been instructed as the lettings and managing agent for the Former Nurses’ Home on Westmoreland Road.
It has been redeveloped by the Manx Development Corporation at a cost of about £11m.
Now called “Thie Clag”, Clock House in Manx Gaelic, the building includes 37 flats and brings a large ground floor commercial unit onto the rental market.
The estate agent said that “further details and where to register your interest will follow next week”.
It added: “We are delighted to be involved in this landmark development and help breathe life back into this iconic building!”
How Much?
When the flats were discussed in Keys on December 17, Chris Thomas (Douglas Central) said that they monthly rental had been estimated to “need to be at least £1,500 per month on average to even just pay the interest that is payable for the time being”.
This ascertain was challenged by Treasury Minister Dr Alex Allinson who said that the market rate would be “assessed by three independent estate agents”.
He added: ‘This is not dependent on any underlying costs or underlying ongoing costs. It is to do with their real experience of the current market.”
The lack of parking on the site was criticised before and during the application process, while the DoI has previously said it would not grant residents’ permits for the proposed Westmoreland Village development.
However, it is not clear if this will affect the nurses’ home as well.
