Residents who want to object to new 20mph speed limits in residential areas have just over a week to do so.
The measures are being proposed by the DoI will see new limits imposed on roads across the island.
Anyone wanting to comment on or object to the changes is invited to write to the Traffic Regulation Order team, Department of Infrastructure, Highway Services, Sea Terminal Building, Douglas, IM1 2RF or email highwayregulations@gov.im on or before Friday March 21.
The new proposed 20mph zones can be found by going to gov.im/maps.
From there the government has made its commitment to engagement very easy, you just have to click on ‘Island Infrastructure’ and then tick the layer marked ‘Proposed IOM Speed Limits Order 2025’.
Inclusive
A government spokesperson said: “Reducing traffic speeds in residential areas is seen as an important step towards improving people’s quality of life and creating streets that are safe and inclusive.
“The zones will reflect the ambition of Our Island Plan to ‘consider our built environment, transport and the road systems, supporting improved quality of life for everyone, including young people and families’.
“No new traffic calming measures will be implemented under the initiative. The focus is on the installation of new signage, raising public awareness and encouraging compliance through behaviour change.”
Schools are included in the strategy and will see existing signs replaced in addition to the installation of flashing lights to highlight when drivers should take extra care.
