The future of Tramway Terrace remains unclear as the DoI continues to assess options for the historic building.
Minister Dr Michelle Haywood confirmed that structural stabilisation work is underway, focusing on the roof and floors of the property.
Dr Haywood stated: “Tramway Terrace remains in poor condition, with design work currently underway to implement structural stabilisation, predominantly to the roof stack and the floors of number one.”
She added that no definitive long-term plans exist, though the department is exploring potential uses.

John Wannenburgh pressed for transparency, asking if reports on the building would be published.
Dr Haywood confirmed a 2004 report by Douglas Borough Council and subsequent studies, noting: “The structural report has been published, but the current report isn’t ready yet.”
Delays were attributed to additional works and concerns over the building’s registered status. Scaffolding costs alone have reached £50,000 since 2020, with repair estimates still pending.
Jason Moorhouse questioned the total expenditure, while Julie Edge highlighted the building’s historic value, citing a conservation report recommending preservation.
While Dr Haywood confirmed she would come back for more information for members, the session concluded with no firm commitments on the building’s fate unresolved.
