The Police have addressed social media speculation following officers dealing with parked motorbikes on Harris Promenade on Monday night.
In a statement, police confirmed that advisory notices—not fines—were issued.
“We would like to confirm that advisory notices were issued on this occasion. These notices are NOT fines,” a spokesperson said.
Officers attended after motorhomes and other vehicles were parked illegally in the area the previous day.
The Constabulary emphasised that the location is a Pedestrian Zone and must remain clear for safety.
Busy
“The area is a Pedestrian Zone and needs to be kept clear for safety reasons,” the statement continued. “Once one person does this, then others follow, and when this area gets busy during the TT Festival, it will create a hazard for all concerned.”
Police noted that while parking will become limited as the festival progresses, spaces were available nearby at the time.
“As the festival gets going, that parking will become a premium. However, at the time of this post, there was plenty of parking available nearby.”
Though no fixed penalty notices were issued on this occasion, the Constabulary clarified that it does not benefit financially from such fines.
“It is probably helpful to clarify that the IOMC does not receive any of the money from such fines,” the statement concluded.
