Harris Battles Hard in Defeat

Billy Harris lost in straight sets in a tight contest in the first round at the US Open.

Making his US Open debut, Harris played Canada’s Felix Auger-Aliassime.

The former Castletown and Albany man had a frustrating start as he lost the opening three games, including missing three break points in the third game.

However, he rallied back and broke Auger-Aliassime’s serve, only losing the first set 4-6.

Break Points

If there is to be any disappointment for Harris tonight it will be his knowledge he had three set points in the second set and could’ve levelled the match.

However, with him being unable to convert them, Auger-Aliassime went on to take that set on the tie break.

Even in the third set of what was a highly entertaining and gruelling contest, Harris caused his Canadian opponent plenty of trouble and with a bit more luck in the right places, could have fought his way back into the contest.

Despite the defeat of  4-6 6-7 (8-10) 4-6, Harris played really well against the former top 10 Auger-Aliassime, who cut a relieved figure when he won the match point.
