The eGaming sector is continuing to shed jobs, according to the latest economic assessment published in the 2026-27 budget.
This contraction comes despite relative stability in other parts of the Manx economy, with the finance sector recording “some small increases” in employment.
The Pink Book says that “a combination of market trends and regulatory action have prompted a reduction in the number of jobs in the eGaming sector, which continues to see declining job figures”.
Vacancies
The budget document notes that advertised job vacancies have “notably fallen during 2025 and are now substantially lower than during the post-COVID period of jobs growth”.
While the overall labour market remains tight with registered unemployment below 300 individuals, the eGaming decline represents a structural shift in one of the island’s key sectors.
The assessment warns that “vacancies still exceed the number of registered unemployed”, suggesting the jobs market is retaining some of its resistance.
Treasury officials have based their five-year financial plan on assumptions of “stable economic and inflationary conditions,” though they acknowledge the eGaming trend as a continuing headwind.
