A Great Show at Returning Festival

A superb performance from the Manx Youth Band secured a second-place finish at the long-awaited return of the Fleetwood Brass Band Contest this weekend.

Travelling to Lancashire alongside Manx Concert Brass, the young musicians delivered a confident rendition of Andrea Price’s I, Daedalus in the Fourth Section under director Ian Clague MBE.

The contest at Marine Hall attracted 35 bands from Scotland, Yorkshire, the Midlands and the North West after a 13-year hiatus, reaching full capacity months in advance.

Band chairman Stephen Maddocks praised the young players: “This weekend has been a fantastic experience for all involved, but to see the Manx Youth Band perform at that level and come away with second place is truly special,’ he said.

“They represented the island with pride and showed just how much talent and commitment there is among our young musicians.”

Manx Concert Brass finished sixth in the Championship Section with their interpretation of St James’: A New Beginning.

The local band finished above four bands that are either Championship section or have been promoted to the section this year.
