Inflation on the Isle of Man rose to 4.9% in April, with the latest Consumer Prices Index showing broad increases across almost every major category.
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels saw the sharpest rise, up 12.1% year‑on‑year after a 10.7% monthly jump.
Energy related items recorded the most dramatic movements, with “oil and other fuels” up 67% and “petrol and oil” rising 23.3%.
Transport costs increased 7.2%, supported by notable rises in driving lessons, which were up 11.1% over the year.
Restaurants and hotels rose 5.9%, driven in part by an 11.2% increase in wine and spirits sold on‑premises.
Communication costs were up 5.8%, while alcohol and tobacco increased 4.3%. Food and non‑alcoholic beverages rose 3.5%, and both recreation and culture and miscellaneous goods and services increased 2.6%.
A small number of items fell in price, including soft drinks (‑7.8%), furnishings (‑6.9%) and tea (‑3.9%), but these declines were outweighed by widespread increases across essential categories.
