Over 170 NICE Appraisals in Four Years

Health Minister Claire Christian MHK has confirmed that Manx Care has implemented more than 170 NICE Technology Appraisals over the past four years, covering cancer and non‑cancer treatments.

The figures were released in response to a written question from Douglas East MHK Joney Faragher.

According to the Minister, Manx Care adopted:

  • 35 cancer TAs and no non‑cancer TAs in 2022/23;
  • 24 cancer and 1 non‑cancer TA in 2023/24;
  • 27 cancer and 43 non‑cancer TAs in 2024/25;
  • 33 cancer and 9 non‑cancer TAs so far in 2025/26.

This brings the four‑year total to 172 appraisals.

The non‑cancer approvals span gastroenterology, dermatology, rheumatology, neurology, cardiology and urology, including treatments for ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis, chronic heart failure and overactive bladder syndrome.

Minister Christian said the full list reflects Manx Care’s ongoing work to align with NICE guidance and expand access to approved therapies.
