Manx event riders delivered a mix of podium success, personal bests and valuable experience in tough heat at Northallerton Horse Trials over the weekend.
Bryn Thompson enjoyed the standout result in the BE90, taking 2nd place in a 44 strong section with Fine Resolve on a personal best score of 27.8.
After two failed attempts to sail to the UK, the pair finally made it across on Saturday and switched to Sunday’s class.
A polished dressage test put them second, followed by a clear showjumping round and a confident cross country run to finish on their dressage score.
Bryn’s wife Sam also competed at the even in the GO BE70 class on Eddie.
A Successful Weekend
Jade Atherton and FourFields Priscilla produced a much improved BE90 performance despite the blistering heat.
A 34.8 dressage, one pole showjumping and three green stops cross‑country didn’t reflect the “1000% improvement” Jade saw in the mare, who tackled a challenging double step‑up bounce question for the first time.
Rebecca Le Blond withdrew Nestor after dressage due to the heat and her own knee injury, but still enjoyed a productive day with Lizzy Lewis’ Next Nellie TD.
Nellie scored 32.8, jumped clear showjumping and was having a superb cross‑country round until a run out at the final fence. The mare tackled her first broken bridge and double bounce steps.
In the BE80, Ruby Qualtrough and Hillview Lilly posted a 32 dressage, a clear showjumping, and completed cross‑country with 20 jumping penalties and 9.2 time, finishing 22nd.
