Chris Thomas MHK is attempting to table an urgent Tynwald motion forcing the Standards Committee’s proposal to censure Kate Lord‑Brennan to be debated before the July sitting concludes.
In a letter to the President of Tynwald, Mr Thomas said the Standards Committee should bring forward its intended motion and report, noting that a draft now in the public domain recommends Ms Lord‑Brennan be censured over comments she made in a Facebook post.
He said the matter has become one of “significant public interest”, touching on freedom of speech and how Tynwald oversees conduct on social media.
Thomas argued the issue should not be left unresolved over the summer recess and the upcoming general election, and urged that members be given the chance to address it this week.
