Stargazers are in for an annual treat tonight as the Perseid meteor shower will be reach its peak overnight.
The shower lights up the skies each summer, and is known for its bright, fast-moving meteors.
The peak times for the Perseids this year are the nights of August 11-12 and 12-13, according to a science communicator at the Royal Observatory Greenwich.
This year the peak coincides with a bright Sturgeon Moon, which reached its full phase on August 9.
The annual event, which is most visible in the northern hemisphere (lucky us!), arises as comet debris burns up in Earth’s atmosphere.
