Alliance Calls on Govt to Pay Back Tax

The Manx TaxPayers’ Alliance has launched a petition calling on the government to return an unexpected income tax surplus to taxpayers.

The campaign follows figures in the Government’s 2024-25 Central Government Summary Management Accounts, showing income tax revenue exceeded forecasts by £21.3 million, largely due to higher interest rates boosting savers’ returns.

Launching its campaign, the MTPA said the government should refund the extra, which would be about £473 per person

Michael Josem said: “This money wasn’t planned for, isn’t needed for any specific purpose, and should be returned to the people who paid it. The Government has already funded everything it planned to do.

“This extra £21.3 million is a windfall surplus that belongs in taxpayers’ pockets, not government coffers.”

The alliance urges residents to sign the petition via its website, arguing public pressure will force action.

The petition is available at https://community.im/taxpayersalliance/2025/07/29/return-the-extra-manx-tax/.
