Ramsey MHK Dr Alex Allinson has announced he will not contest this year’s General Election, bringing a decade in the Tynwald to an end.
Dr Allinson, first elected in 2016 and re‑elected in 2021, said serving the town had been “one of the proudest moments of my life.”
He highlighted his work with residents, local businesses, the commissioners and government, as well as six years in ministerial roles across Education, Enterprise and Treasury during what he described as “challenging times” for the island.
Time For New Voices
In his statement, he thanked the people of Ramsey for their support and said it was now time to “encourage new voices and ideas” to represent the North.
While proud of progress made, he acknowledged delays in key priorities including affordable housing, accessible health services, town infrastructure and public facilities.
With three months of the administration remaining, he said he would continue working to complete ongoing programmes, secure Royal Assent for the Assisted Dying Bill and help shape a “progressive agenda” for the future.
Dr Allinson urged voters in September to back candidates who will promote a “cohesive, progressive and open society.”
He ended by thanking Ramsey residents for their trust over the past ten years, saying it had been an honour to represent them.
