Angie Tells Thandi’s Story

Baldrine resident, Angie Goody has published a children’s book, based on the true story of Thandi the rhino who survived being poached.

The story tells the tale through the eyes of Thandi, from when she was brutally poached to the day she gave birth to her first calf Thembi.

Several years ago, Angie spent a lot of time at the Kariega Game Reserve and even set up a fundraiser for Thandi back in 2013.

All profits from the sale of the book will go straight back to the Kariega Foundation for their continued support in Rhino conservation and keeping their rhinos protected.

A True Story

Having recently been reunited with Thandi in South Africa, Angie said: “It was such a special visit back to Kariega Game Reserve a visit that has been way over due!

“I will be forever grateful for the opportunities Kariega gave me over the years and although a lot has changed since I was last there, it will forever be in my heart.

“As well as the wonderful Dr William Fowlds who I will always be thankful our paths crossed. If it wasn’t for him and many others, Thandi wouldn’t be with us today.”

Angie thanked Becky Whitworth for illustrating the book and says “without her I don’t think I would have ever got my book published. Becky has done an amazing job at illustrating the book using many of my own photos. I will be forever grateful”.

The book is available online here.
