The October sitting marks the start of a new parliamentary year, and the agenda is bursting with over 50 items and a ton of vital questions.
The government will seek approval for a swathe of new regulations, from shared parental leave and allowances to updated health and safety rules for quarries.
Major strategies, including the new Transport Strategy will also be presented, though not without contention; an amendment has already been tabled to ensure the government “notes” the plan rather than “receives” it.
Dr Ranson
While the government has consistently tried to ensure the Dr Ranson fallout play out like a Greek tragedy, with all the key action happening off stage, the Chief Minister is going to address it this week.
Alf Cannan will make a statement on the government’s response to the Richard Wright report.
The simmering issue of whistleblowing is also set for a dramatic airing. Onchan MHK Julie Edge will ask Mr Cannan what advice was received prior to removing politicians from the government’s whistleblowing policy.
She will later seek to establish a select committee to investigate the policy’s implementation, citing the “impact on public sector employers and employees”.
Economy
The state of the Manx economy is under the microscope with Ramsey MHK Lawrie Hooper asked the Enterprise Minister whether he has “any concerns about the sustained year-on-year reduction in real Gross National Product (GNP) since 2020″?
In a separate question, Hooper will probe which sectors have been “most impacted by the reduction in self-employment between 2021 and 2025″.

Infrastructure and housing remain hot-button issues while one motion calls for a “funded plan to meet the infrastructure needs of an expanded population in Peel” demanding it be delivered before the controversial North and West Area Plan is approved.
With questions also covering weekend closures at Ramsey’s MIU, the cost of new conference policies, and the island’s tourism sector, the return of Tynwald Court promises a wide-ranging session offering fun for all the family.
