The next phase of conservation work at Laxey Wheel is set to start.
The former ticket office will be removed, following the recent opening of the new Visitor Welcome Hub and Shop.
Built in the 1980s, the ticket office has served visitors for more than four decades, with more than one million people passing through it during its lifetime, playing an important role in the visitor experience at the site.
John-Paul Walker, historic buildings architect for Manx National Heritage, said: “We are delighted to continue our investment in the Great Laxey Wheel, building on the significant conservation work already undertaken.
“With the new Visitor Welcome Hub and Shop, further restoration works progressing and refreshed interpretation planned, Manx National Heritage is creating an even better experience for visitors while ensuring Lady Isabella’s remarkable heritage is preserved and celebrated for generations to come”.
Recent work at the wheel has included the repointing and repainting of the wheel’s iconic rod duct, the original of which featured an impressive series of 32 arches extending over 169 metres along Glen Mooar Valley.
