Steam Packet Ship Heading to Jersey

The MV Arrow is to run freight services in the Channel for danish shipping firm DFDS.

Used as the back up freight vessel here, the Arrow was bought by the Steam Packet in 2022.

With each of the main Channel Islands having decided to bring in their own ferry operator, the Arrow will work for DFDS and make six return sailings a week between Jersey and Portsmouth, as well as a weekly southbound trip to and from St Malo.

Reports in the Channel Islands say the vessel is due to start on this route from 28 March.

Since her purchase, the Arrow has been chartered to Caledonian MacBrayne to provide freight service on some of its routes when its own vessel were out of service.

She has also been used during high passenger times, such as TT, or when there has been several days of cancellations due to storms, to ease freight movements to allow the Manxman or the Ben-my-Chree to carry extra vehicles and passengers.

We have contacted the Steam Packet for comment, but have yet to receive a substantive reply.
