The Tynwald Auditor General has published an update on Audit Vannin’s work programme ahead of the first sitting of the new Tynwald following the General Election.
The report outlines a number of ongoing and planned reviews, including government fees and charges, the Department of Infrastructure’s management of the Government vehicle fleet, Manx Care’s approach to off-island referrals and Government procurement of common goods and services.
Work is also being scoped on reviews of clinical efficiency, the management of major projects and planning school places.
The Auditor General said his work remains focused on identifying opportunities to improve public services while delivering value for money and savings for public bodies.
In a separate report, he responds to Treasury’s report on public audit reform, maintaining that only comprehensive reform of public audit legislation can provide a system of assurance capable of meeting future challenges.
The Auditor General argues that while progress has been made, further reform is needed to bring the island’s public audit framework into line with accepted international standards and to enshrine the independence and operational freedom of the role in law.
