Mental health charity Ed Space has been awarded £50,000 from the Dormant Assets Fund to help strengthen and expand its peer-support services across the island.
The funding will support a 12-month project that will see the charity create two full-time positions: a Head Coordinator and an Operations and Support Officer.
The new roles will help oversee Ed Space’s eight weekly peer-support groups, support volunteers, manage referrals and strengthen the charity’s long-term sustainability.
Established in memory of Eddie Joyce, Ed Space now provides weekly support groups in Douglas, Ramsey, Castletown and Peel. Around 150 people attend the groups each month, supported by approximately 70 active volunteers.
Additional Capacity
The charity says the additional capacity will also allow it to expand its outreach work, including partnerships with other organisations, healthcare professionals and initiatives such as the Blue Light Breakfast Club.
Shirley Cain of Ed Space said the new roles would help ensure services remain “safe, consistent and sustainable” while allowing the charity to continue providing welcoming spaces where people can talk openly and know they are not alone.
The Dormant Assets Fund is administered by Manx Lottery Trust on behalf of Treasury and provides grants to help community and voluntary organisations build resilience and capacity for the future.
